Classy three year old Sonny Biscay wasted little time in returning a first prize cheque to his connections, after being disqualified at his previous start when his jockey Richard Rhodes weighed in light. Kevin Bohorun the stable apprentice to Peter Fernie wasted little time in sending the three year old to the front and from there the party was over. Sonny Biscay is a Stormy's Son gelding that was formerly trained by Robert Harvey and was owned by Lex and Shirley Piper the breeders of the horse. A group of local race goers headed up by prominent bookmaker Neil Gill leased Sonny Biscay and they look to have a handy horse on their hands. His winning time of 1.04.49 was very sharp for a maiden 1100 metre race and his margin of just under six lengths could not have been more impressive. The victory by Sonny Biscay was the first on the local track for Bohorun who appears set for a bright future on the Goldfields. "He won well last start but I knew we were in trouble after the race when the stewards were talking with Richard Rhodes." Neil Gill told The Gurkha "It didn't look any harder on Saturday but he won extremely well." The time recorded by Sonny Biscay was faster then that of Arachnid who won over the same distance later in the day and indicates there will be more wins in store for connections. |
