Fours All Round by The Gurkha

 12/05/2010

Trainer Susannah Hoppman and apprentice jockey Damian Lane enjoyed a day they will not forget for a while, both landing four timers last Sunday at the Kalgoorlie Boulder Race Club.

Hoppman was the darling of quaddie punters training the last four winners on the program, rewarding stable followers with a $2708 dividend for the $1 unit.

The four winners took her training tally for the season to seven three winners behind the leader Peter Fernie on 10.

Lane combined with Hoppman for two of the wins with consistent apprentice Campbell McCallum steering the other two victors home.

Without doubt the most impressive winner of the day was Simplyirresistible who is racing in the type of form that suggests a trip to the city would not be out of order.

Damian Lane found himself back in the field and was the last runner on straightening for home. However the promising apprentice didn't panic and kept improving his position down the straight before taking a split between runners and storming to victory.

"That was a super win! The runs just kept appearing and when he sprinted to them close to home we were fairly flying." Young Lane told the Gurkha.

"I had ridden him once before when we were just touched off by Le Flirt last year, but he is going a lot better this year."

Simplyirresistible was suited by the smaller field of 11 runners on Sunday but was the only horses to make up that type of ground for the entire meeting.

Lane had struck early on the program winning the second race on Seamus for Paul Smythe and race three on Misty Affair for Stephen Miller.

"I got the perfect run on Seamus with the cutaway and Misty Affair had a lovely time of it out in front and sprinted very quickly when I gave her full rein." Lane added.

Perelmo made it fours all round for Hoppman and Lane by finishing hard up against the fence to hit the lead just before the finishing post.

‘His form had been very consistent before Sundays win and again we got all the favours and the horse was good enough to finish it off. If you get in the right positions good things happen."
