A while back the Gurkha suggested that Two Strong Hearts could well be another Bonny Bonny for his connections Elio and Jacquie Galante from Beaumonde Homes in Perth and judging by his win on Sunday the Show A Heart gelding is well on the way. His win on Sunday brought up the hat trick for Hoppman and rider Campbell McCallum who also enjoyed a riding double at the meeting. While Two Strong Hearts will have to win another three races to equal the achievements of Bonny Bonny last year, McCallum thinks there are more wins in store. "I won a race on Bonny Bonny last year and while they are two different types of horses, Two Strong Hearts is a bomb proof type of a horse." "We led last start and on Sunday he was able to get the drop on the leaders and came down the outside with a strong finishing run." McCallum also rode Battle Scene to perfection for Hoppman, claiming the Terra Drilling Handicap in the style of a horse with a future. "He could not have been more impressive. He had the pace to be there and coming to the corner I was bolting and he just needed to finish the race off which he did." McCallum has become a regular visitor to the Kalgoorlie track and his winning double on Sunday increased his tally to seven for the season and he currently leads the Jockey of the Year table as well as the Scimitar Services Apprentice of the Year Award. Two Strong Hearts and his stable mate Simplyirresistible are the runaway leaders in the DR Brent Hunt Horse of the Year Award. Two Strong Hearts has 13 points to lead Simplyirresistible on 10 with another Hoppman trained galloper Perelmo on nine points with the Peter Fernie trained Matzuni also on nine. |
