Former city class trainer Rickie Brown ended a long stint on the sidelines when he prepared Barkida to win the first race of the day last Sunday. Brown enjoyed considerable success in the nineties when he combined with his cousin Greg Taylor to dominate city racing with the stock of former Queensland sire Cavalini. The former Brown trained sprinter Cavadory held the 1000 metre record at Belmont Park for over a decade before Ma Ma Machine lowered the time last year. Brown decided to move to Geraldton and the last winner he trained before Barkida was Zamojski at Dongara in March of 2002. "My son Trentan purchased Barkida over the internet and I decided to train it and our other horse Trentan Dior." Brown said "Barkida is a half to Simply Adorable and may stay a bit down the track. We are still trying to sort Trentan Dior out." "I still work at the mines and I do not have any other plans to increase the stable size." Rickie Brown is part of one of the most famous racing families in Kalgoorlie and two of his other brothers Robert and Rodney the KBRC Committeeman are also trainers in the area. "We get around and try and help each other out. It gets pretty demanding working long horse and then backing up at the track." "But days like last Sunday make it all worthwhile." Brown chuckled. |
