It may have been a long time coming but the performance of Red Hot Prince to easily win the Devil’s Lair Fifth Leg Handicap (1300 metres) maybe a portent of things to come for the Opera Prince gelding. Originally from the Newcastle district of New South Wales, Red Hot Prince took 13 starts to break his Kalgoorlie maiden, after going winless in nine perfromances last year. Red Hot Prince is typical of many Eastern States trained gallopers that arrive in Kalgoorlie and take a season or so to hit their straps. Nadia Bishop controlled the race nicely from the front and sprinted away at the cut- away to win untouched by just under three lengths, from the stable mate Fer A Cheval. The gelding ran 1.38 seconds faster then the time recorded by Bright Reason in the other 1300 metre race on the card and the win notched up the 12th win of the season for leading trainer Peter Fernie. |
