Win of the day by the Gurkha

 2/06/2010

It was not an easy choice for the win of the day but the fact that Aint No Saint took his winning strike rate to 33% and carried the top weight of 59 kg was enough to swing it his way.

The Merv Dellar trained Danetime gelding tracked the speed and finished too powerfully for his rivals over the concluding stages to win with authority on the line.

Aint No Saint has now raced 15 times for five wins and three placings and conceded his closest rival Universal Reign 4.5 kg.

The win was his fourth at the 1200 metre distance and had his trainer Dellar very happy after the win.

“He is going pretty good at the moment. Damian cuddled him very well. This horse can pull up if he hits the lead too early. He just loses his concentration but it helped on Sunday because he had the other horse (Universal Reigns) putting the pressure on.” Dellar said.

“The cut-away rail has helped this horse and has really evened the racing up here. Once you get wide in Kalgoorlie you go nowhere.”

“I am looking at starting Aint No Saint in an open 1200 metres in a fortnight. He will drop down to 54 kg and I am keen to test him against the better horses.”

Dellar conceded it has been tough year to date and was disappointed with the effort of Torrid Affair last Sunday behind Major Canny in the Mines Rovers Football Club Sprint.

“I think he may have put it over the apprentice jockey. We will put a senior jockey back on him next start but that was an ordinary effort on Sunday”
