The Gary Bowen trained Menuhin showed plenty of courage to grind away and win the Golden City Motors Stayers Series Heat from Power Torque and Henry Joseph in a finish which changed dramatically over the concluding stages. Misty Bazeley had set a very fast speed on Midnight Train and the galloping grey was sending out distress signals at the 200 metres. Menuhin had tracked the pace throughout and kept coming along the rails with his rivals steaming home down the centre of the track. Kyra Yuill continued to work hard on Menuhin to get home in a thrilling three way finish. Menuhin showed he was not far from winning form when second to Brat last start and dropping down 4.5 kg in the weights, certainly helped the gelding get home. Ride Of The Day To see to jockeys of the future, Kyra Yuill and Damian Lane battle out the Discover The Round Handicap was a real highlight of the days racing. Lane had ridden Cool Euro perfectly, sitting back of a strong speed and then moving forward down the Charles Street side of the track and mounting his challenge at the perfect time on straightening for home. However all along Yuill was tracking Cool Euro on Lottabiz wherever he went and when she came to his outside at the 200 metres it was obvious who the winner would be. Lottabiz descended to win by ¾ of a length with a margin back to Black Satan in third place. The first two home were perfectly ridden by their jockeys with the last rider to strike, getting the money. SJ back in the Spotlight The winning treble on Sunday was the first as a trainer for former champion jockey Stephen Miller. Miller has one of the most outstanding records as a jockey on the local course but has taken a while to hit his top this year but the wait was worth it on Sunday, enjoying three winners with three different jockeys on board. Show Pony a promising four year old Made of Gold mare is owned by Sean Miller a nephew of Stephens and son of the great Danny Miller. The mare put the writing on the wall last start with her fighting second to Toronto and went one better on Sunday. “She is a pretty handy mare and I like the way she fought on Sunday. The second horse (Eagle Peak) goes alright and it was good for Sean to own a winner.” Miller told the Gurhka. Win number two was the stable stalwart Em Gee Brown who has now earned herself a spell with that win. “She is more then likely going to go for a spell and then be set for Pinjarra and Bunbury.” The win was the Euclase mares seventh from only 24 starts and she appears to have more victories in store. “Duncan appears to be back with that win and the one at Belmont on Saturday on Brave Knight, so that is very pleasing.” The final of the three wins was with Lottabiz who appears to be racing at the peak of his powers this time in. “He seems to have matured into a more relaxed style of a horse and he will take his place in the Stayers series and we will see how he is going coming into the Round.” “It was a great ride by Kyra and the other boys did little wrong in the race as well.”
