Duncan Miller Back With A Vengeance by The Gurkha

 20/07/2010

The resurgence of talented trainer Stephen Miller continued on Sunday with a little help from his son Duncan with the pair combining for a brace of wins and Duncan ending the day with a treble.

Fresh from his first treble as a trainer last Sunday, Stephen Miller prepared The Alleged to win the Ryan Hough Maiden (1200 metres) and Master Izzac the XXXX Gold Handicap (1600 metres).

Duncan was able to pilot Le Flirt home for Neil Dellar in the Air Liquide Handicap to make it three successive winners.

The three thrilling victories had little more then a combined winning margin of a long neck for the vastly talented apprentice.

“It’s great to be back riding winners especially for the old man.”
Duncan Miller told The Gurkha “We have really clicked since I started riding again and it is good for everybody.”

“The Alleged finished the race off nicely and is lightly raced and appears to have a bit of a future.”

The former Dan Morton trained three year old was bred at Lynward Park Stud and is by the ageless champion sire Bletchley Park out of the deceased Woodman mare Posh Magic.

Previously he had finished a creditable third in a Belmont Park barrier trial behind the smart Court Crusader and his finishing burst would suggest that an increase in distance would not be detrimental to his future winning chances.

Master Izzac chimed in late in the piece to get up by the barest possible margin in one of the most exciting finishes of the season.

A short half head and a head separated Master Izzac, Star Ruler and Class To Go and it was a brilliantly timed run by Duncan Miller on Mister Izzac to get him home.

“We just got there. It looked to be very tight but I thought I may have just arrived.”

“Master Izzac was a good run last start behind Lottabiz and that horse is flying at the moment.”

“He has only had a few runs this campaign and I would think there are more wins in store.”

Master Izaac was formerly trained by Sharon Miller at Lark Hill and after taking a while to find his best form, maybe able to put some more wins on the board.

The win of Le Flirt was also a busy finish with two heads and a neck being the final margins between the first four home.

Again it was Duncan Miller coming with the last run at the leaders, this time picking a gap between horses to win right on the line.

The win by Le Flirt was her first of the season and the McFlirt mare broke a frustrating run of outs for trainer Neil Dellar.

Duncan Millers three winners on Sunday takes his tally to six winners from
28 rides since returning from a term of disqualification, including two city victories on Brave Knight and Last Curtain.
