The recent consistent form of Kalgoorlie trainer Rod Brown by Julio Santarelli

 30/07/2010

The recent consistent form of Kalgoorlie trainer Rod Brown should continue on Sunday with Secret Prince headlining the stable charge in the Centaurus Brazilian Derby Handicap (1100m).
The son of Secret Savings was an impressive last-start maiden winner and if he can reproduce a similar effort on the weekend he will take a power of beating.
He blew the opposition away in a bold front-running display to win by a comfortable two length margin and Brown is quietly confident a repeat performance will see the promising three-year-old score back-to-back victories.
“He has a bit of talent and speed this horse and from barrier one he should be able to jump and lead and be hard to run down,” Brown said.
“There were a few people who were slightly disappointed with his first up run when unplaced but on reflection a wide barrier draw and lumping around a big weight didn’t help his chances.
“But from barrier one and with the claim of Munusamy Ganesh we have the same conditions as his win a fortnight ago and we’re anticipating a similar result.”
Brown is also anticipating interest from prospective buyers if Secret Savings makes it two wins from three starts on Sunday.
He was fielding numerous overseas calls prior to his debut performance on June 27 but the phone went silent after his unflattering seventh placing to Dontorio.
“He has a full brother who has earned almost $4 million in Hong Kong and there were a few interested parties from that part of the world,” Brown said.
“They were pretty keen to have a look at him so I took him down to Perth for the trials so they could access vision.
“He ran one of the quickest times of the day but for whatever reason they went cold and I haven’t heard a word since.
“Another win on the weekend and I might hear from them again.
“Either way I am happy with the way he’s performing and I might even take him to town in a few weeks.”
Stable mate Academy Tide will be making his debut in the Giralia Iron Maiden (1200m) and despite drawing awkwardly in barrier 11 Brown is expecting a forward showing.
“The draw isn’t a concern because Royal Academy’s generally get back anyway but I am expecting him to run home strongly and get over the top of them,” Brown said.
